Case Study - Serigraphia
One of Coventry's longest established digital and screen printing firms is reaping the benefits after installing the latest internet connection.
WH Serigraphia, whose clients include Coventry Building Society and AGCO Ltd, was set up 42 years ago and now operates from a factory in Longford Road.
The family-run firm produces point-of-sale materials, including large format posters and stickers, as well as platen-cut displays and banners.
They had a need to send large graphic files in an uncompressed format over the internet. They found ADSL just too slow.
They also needed to avoid the loss of image quality inherent in standard image compression schemes.

The answer was SDSL, which is a faster service, and has the ability to cope with large documents.
Serigraphia was given funding by CW2000 for a high-speed SDSL internet connection as part of the Broadband Access Pilot. Installation was carried out by Computime.
Managing director, Mark Howarth, whose father Wesley set up the firm, said the timescale for contracts has been significantly improved by the internet developments.
He said: "We had internet access before CW2000 contacted us, but jumped at the chance to try out the high-speed option they suggested."
"Before we had the SDSL line clients would supply artwork on CD, due to the huge size of the files."
"They would then have to be picked up or couriered, which added a significant amount of time to the length of projects, especially with clients who are based further afield."
"The SDSL connection has completely altered this as we can now get the artwork at a much faster speed."
The company was so impressed with the benefits of the SDSL connection they continued with the service after the initial year-long funding from CW2000 expired.
David Baldwin, of CW2000, said: "SDSL is at the cutting edge of the internet. It can be expensive and so is a big step for a company to take."
Providing Serigraphia with the first year of funding has given the company a full year to discover whether SDSL would be of benefit to the business without the extra financial outlay.
"Being able to send large graphic files in an uncompressed format over an SDSL link avoids the loss of image quality inherent in standard image compression schemes."
"SDSL has given the company the ability to do this in a timely manner and we are delighted to have been able to support them."
Mike Wetherhead, Sales Manager for Computime, said "Serigraphia was an obvious choice for the high speed SDSL as they need to move a lot of documents around from themselves to customers and back. Ordinary ADSL was not fast enough. Now with this searive makes it easier, and more cost effective"
